The flautist / multi-instrumentalist jazz composer has become a leading light in the modern, hybridized improvised music ecosystem. Last year's "Perceive Its Beauty, Acknowledge Its Grace," released on the legendary Impulse! Records, was Shabaka's official debut EP. But the album follows years of collaborative work in The Comet Is Coming, Sons of Kemet and Shabaka and the Ancestors, amongst other ensembles. Richly expressive, breathing with a fluid, soulful power, "Perceive Its Beauty" counts among its contributors Floating Points, Saul Williams, Carlos Niño and Esperanza Spalding.

It's a rare moment that a jazz artist headlines the Main Hall, but Shabaka is one of those voices whose work transcends boundaries. Touching as much on hip-hop, ambient, Afro-Caribbean fusion and club music as jazz, Shabaka's music draws you into a stunning world of, as he says, beauty and grace.
